The City of Wrenford is launching a new spring cleaning initiative to help downtown businesses refresh their storefronts and keep the core clean and welcoming for shoppers. Starting March 25, 2024, the programme will provide free window-cleaning supplies, graffiti removal services, and matching facade paint to eligible businesses along Mercer Street, Market Square, and Water Street.
Work will be coordinated by the Economic Development team in partnership with the Downtown Wrenford Business Improvement Area. City crews will sweep streets and clear debris each morning, while volunteers and business owners can join weekend clean-up days on Saturdays in April. The initiative aims to prepare the downtown corridor for the busy summer season and encourage foot traffic.
Business owners can register for free cleaning kits at City Hall or online by March 31. The kits include squeegees, non-slip cleaners, and gloves. Graffiti removal requests can be submitted through the city's online portal, and crews will typically visit reported sites within two business days. Street sweeping will resume on a neighbourhood schedule beginning the first week of April.
"Spring is the perfect time to turn a fresh page for your storefront," said Isabel Moreno, Economic Development Manager. "We want to make it as easy as possible for business owners to refresh their spaces and for residents to enjoy a clean, vibrant downtown this season. This initiative is just one part of our broader work to support downtown vitality and long-term growth."
Businesses interested in applying for exterior repairs or greening projects can also explore the Facade improvement assistance program and the Beautification and greening grants.
