Facade improvement assistance program

Financial support for downtown property owners and businesses to upgrade storefronts and exterior features.

About the program

If you own or lease a commercial property in the Downtown Wrenford Business Improvement Area, you can apply for financial help to improve the outside of your building. This program makes our downtown streets more attractive for shoppers and visitors.

What we cover

We fund exterior aesthetic upgrades that keep your building safe and welcoming. Eligible work includes:

  • Repairs or replacement of brick, stone, or stucco facades
  • New or restored windows and doors
  • Awnings, canopies, and marquees
  • Exterior lighting and façade accent lighting
  • Decorative signage and fascias
  • Clean-up and repointing of historic masonry

Work that does not qualify includes security grilles, window tinting, temporary wraps, and interior renovations. You must obtain all required Building permits before starting any work.

How much funding is available

We will cover up to 50 per cent of your eligible project costs. The maximum grant payout is $40,000 per property. You must provide the remaining 50 per cent in matching funds from your own budget or other sources.

Application process

  1. Request a pre-consultation meeting with our economic development team to review your project scope.
  2. Gather detailed cost estimates from a licensed contractor or architect.
  3. Submit the completed application form, contractor quotes, site photos, and drawings of the proposed work.
  4. Once approved, secure your building permits and begin work within six months.
  5. Complete all improvements within 18 months of the funding commitment letter.
  6. Submit final invoices and proof of payment. We will pay out the grant after a final inspection.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis during the intake period. Incomplete forms will be returned. We prioritize projects located on main retail corridors and historic buildings.

Important dates

The application window opens on March 1 and closes on April 30 each year. Late submissions will not be accepted. Successful applicants will receive a funding commitment letter and a list of required next steps.
