Kingfisher Pool construction starts June 21, 2024

Construction crews begin work today, June 21, 2024, on the new Kingfisher Outdoor Pool and splash pad at 15 Kingfisher Court. The project will bring a modern aquatic facility to the Kingfisher neighbourhood, replacing the previous seasonal pool and adding a new splash pad for families.

The Roads & Winter Maintenance team is coordinating the site setup, including temporary street closures on Kingfisher Court and nearby access roads. Residents and businesses in the area should expect intermittent lane shifts and detours over the coming weeks.

“We are excited to finally break ground on this long-awaited amenity,” said Samuel Adeyemi, General Manager of Infrastructure and Planning. “The new pool and splash pad will provide a safe, modern space for residents to cool off during the summer months, and we are committed to keeping traffic moving safely while we build it.”

Crews will begin excavating the site and installing underground utilities before pouring the pool shell and pad foundations. The project is expected to take approximately four months, with the pool scheduled to open for the 2025 summer season.

During construction, the City will enforce temporary parking bans along the affected streets to keep the work zone clear for heavy equipment. Drivers should follow posted detour signs and expect brief stops for material deliveries. If you notice a pothole or drainage issue caused by the work, you can report it online through our service request tool.

The splash pad will feature interactive water jets and a zero-depth entry area, making it accessible for younger children. The main pool will include a 25-metre lap lane and a leisure area with diving boards.

The City thanks residents for their patience as we improve this vital community resource. More details on the pool’s programming and registration dates will be shared later this year.
