Hollis Park off-leash area sees increased usage in summer

Summer is in full swing and the Hollis Park Off-Leash Area is seeing record numbers of visitors. From early morning dog walkers to afternoon families enjoying the playground nearby, the park is a popular spot for Wrenford residents.

With more people using the space, the City wants to make sure everyone shares the park safely and respectfully. Whether you are bringing a four-legged friend or just enjoying a stroll, here are a few tips to keep in mind.

For dog owners:

  • Keep dogs under control at all times. If a dog is not responding to voice commands, use a leash.
  • Pick up and dispose of all pet waste. Waste left behind can harm wildlife and spread disease.
  • Ensure your dog is vaccinated and licensed. A licensed dog is a safe dog.
  • Do not bring puppies under four months old, or dogs that are aggressive or in heat.

For everyone else:

  • Give dogs space. Do not approach a dog unless the owner invites you to.
  • Watch your children closely. Dogs may react to sudden movements or loud noises.
  • Keep strollers and bikes moving. Sudden stops can startle dogs.

"We love seeing our community come together at the park," says Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. "When we all follow a few simple rules, the off-leash area stays fun and safe for dogs, families, and nature lovers alike."

Remember, the off-leash area is only active from dawn to dusk. Outside these hours, all dogs must be on a leash no longer than two metres. By-law officers patrol the park regularly to ensure the park bylaws and rules are followed.
