Starting Monday, May 6, City crews will collect green bins every week across Wrenford. This change marks the start of the spring and summer collection season, when residents are putting out more yard trimmings and food scraps.
Weekly collection helps manage higher volumes during the warmer months and keeps odours low. During the winter, service slows to every other week because there is less yard waste and colder weather slows down decomposition.
You can put grass clippings, leaves, fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, and uncoated paper towels in your green bin. Do not include plastic bags, garden hoses, or pet waste.
Make sure your green bin is placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your regular garbage collection day. Keep it at least one metre away from your car and other bins so the truck can lift it safely. If your bin is too heavy or full, you can leave it out and the crew will collect what they can.
"Switching to a weekly schedule in May gives our crews the best chance to keep neighbourhoods clean and reduce the amount of waste going to the landfill," says Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. "It also makes it easier for residents to manage yard waste while the weather is warm."
You can find your exact collection day and sign up for service alerts through the Wrenford 311 service or the city website.
