The Wrenford Fire Department is celebrating 100 years of service this week. The centennial observance runs from September 15 to 21, 2024, and is centered at Fire Station 1, 210 Water Street, Wrenford, ON N4Q 1A6.
For a century, Wrenford's firefighters have answered every call in the rain, snow, and heat. They have responded to fires, medical emergencies, and rescue operations, while also running public education programs and helping neighbours prepare for emergencies. The department's history is tied closely to the growth of the city itself, expanding from a small volunteer brigade to a professional team that covers all six wards.
"It is an honour to lead a department that has stood ready for a century," said Fire Chief Darren MacAulay. "Our firefighters and staff have answered every call in the rain, snow, and heat, and we are committed to keeping that promise for the next hundred years."
As part of the anniversary celebrations, the Fire Prevention Office will host open house hours at the headquarters. Residents are welcome to tour the facility, meet the crews, and learn about modern equipment. The team will also be offering free smoke and carbon monoxide alarm checks during the week. If you need a new alarm or a battery replacement, bring your device to the front desk on Water Street.
Business owners and property managers should take this opportunity to review their fire safety plans. The department reminds everyone that plans must be updated annually and submitted through the Fire Prevention online portal. If you are planning a seasonal burn, you can pick up a permit at the station or apply online before the April 1 start date.
Thank the local firefighters for their dedication by checking your home safety gear and sharing the centennial updates with your neighbours. For more information on fire prevention, permit applications, and emergency preparedness, visit the Fire Rescue page.
