Extra garbage bags allowed for Tamsin River Run weekend

With the Tamsin River Run taking place this weekend, the City of Wrenford is reminding residents along the course that extra garbage bags are allowed on collection day. The race draws thousands of runners, volunteers and spectators to the Tamsin River Trail, and the City wants to make sure all event waste is picked up quickly.

Normally, households can place up to two 20-kilogram bags next to their black cart. For the Tamsin River Run weekend, you may place up to five extra bags at your curb. You must follow the usual rules:

  • Place your extra bags next to your black cart, not inside it.
  • Keep your cart and the space around it clear of obstacles.
  • Have your bags curbside by 7:00 a.m. on collection day.
  • Do not place large items, construction debris or hazardous waste in your extra bags.

Collection crews will be working extra shifts to clear the route and surrounding neighbourhoods. If you have a large amount of waste from setting up for the run, please split it into smaller bags. Overfilled carts or bags that are too heavy will not be emptied.

"We know that big community events bring extra waste, and we want to make sure your neighbourhood stays clean and safe," says Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. "Please stick to the five-bag limit per household and keep the bags light enough for our crews to lift safely."

If you do not have a black cart, you can still use your regular garbage service. Just make sure your bags are tied and placed where your cart would normally sit. For a full list of what can and cannot go in your garbage, check the Waste wizard and disposal guide or visit the Garbage & Recycling page.

Regular collection will resume its normal schedule the following week. For more details on waste collection rules, visit Black cart and garbage collection.
