Electronic waste recycling drop-off dates extended for summer

The City of Wrenford is extending the drop-off dates for the Wrenford Electronics Recycling Program this summer. Residents can bring their old computers, phones, printers and small appliances to the East Wrenford Waste Management Facility and the Northgate Drop-off Depot until October 31, 2024. This extension gives you extra time to sort through your home and recycle items that would otherwise take up space in the landfill.

The drop-off depots are open year-round, but the special summer extended hours mean you can bring your e-waste at your convenience. At East Wrenford, the facility is open Monday to Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Northgate Drop-off Depot is open Wednesday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Both locations are free for all Wrenford residents.

Please remember to wipe all personal data from your devices before you bring them in. The City accepts computers, laptops, tablets, phones, printers, scanners, keyboards, mice, monitors and small appliances like toasters and microwaves. Large items like refrigerators and freezers are not accepted at the depots. You can also drop off old batteries, paint cans and household hazardous waste at the same locations.

Do not place electronic items in your black cart, blue bin or green bin. Our waste collection crews will not pick them up. If you leave e-waste at the curb, crews will tag it with a notice and leave it behind for you to take to the depot. This keeps your collection on schedule and stops recyclable materials from ending up in the landfill. The Wrenford Electronics Recycling Program is managed under Ontario producer responsibility rules, which means these items contain valuable resources that can be recovered and reused.

"We know summer is a busy time for household projects and spring clean-outs," says Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. "By extending our drop-off dates, we want to make it easier for residents to recycle their electronics safely and keep them out of the waste stream. We also encourage everyone to check the Waste Wizard online tool before they buy or throw anything away."

Find out exactly what goes where by searching your item in the Waste wizard online tool. For more information on curbside collection, depot hours and waste diversion programmes, visit the Garbage & Recycling page.
