The East Wrenford Waste Management Facility opens its doors for seasonal bulky item drop-off starting today, June 15, and will run through October 31. Residents can bring large household items to the depot during regular operating hours, Monday to Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
This Summer Bulky Item Drop-off Programme accepts furniture, mattresses, appliances, and other large items that do not fit in your regular waste cart. The first 100 residents each week can drop off items for free. After those weekly spots fill up, a small fee of $10.00 per item applies. This programme runs alongside the regular landfill and recycling services, so you can handle your spring cleaning or summer move-out items in one trip.
"We know that bulky items can be tricky to store or schedule for pickup, so we opened this seasonal window to keep our roads and parks clear of illegal dumping," says Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. "It is a simple, safe way for residents to dispose of large items while we manage the extra summer traffic at the depot."
Here is what you need to know before you go:
- Prepare your items: Disassemble beds and tables if you can, and remove all personal belongings. Appliances with Freon must be drained at a drop-off depot before arrival.
- Bring proof of residency: A driver's licence, utility bill, or property tax notice will be checked at the entrance to verify you live within city limits.
- Follow the line: A staff member will direct you to the correct drop-off zone. Do not park in the recycling or organics lanes.
If you prefer not to drive to the depot, you can still use your regular weekly collection. Remember to place bulky items at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your scheduled collection day. You are allowed up to three bulky items per pickup, and you can use this benefit twice a year. For mattress recycling, you can use your two free recycling vouchers per calendar year at the depot.
