Bulky item pickup

Arrange curbside pickup for large household items up to three times a year, twice per year.

What counts as a bulky item?

If you need to dispose of large household items, you can arrange a free curbside pickup through the City. A bulky item is a large piece of household goods that does not fit in a regular garbage bin. Examples include sofas, chairs, tables, dressers, bookshelves, mattresses, box springs, luggage, and large plastic items.

Small items do not count. You cannot bundle multiple small items together to equal one bulky item.

How many items can I schedule?

Residential customers are allowed up to three items per pickup. You may use this service twice per year. Your item count resets on January 1 each year, and unused pickups cannot be carried over to the next year.

How to book a pickup

You must call to schedule a date before placing items on the curb. Walk-up drop-offs are not accepted for this service.

  1. Call the Civic Operations Centre at 519-555-0112 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
  2. Provide your home address and a list of the items you want collected.
  3. The staff member will give you a specific pickup date.

If you live in a multi-unit building, you must speak with your landlord or property owner first. They will need to confirm that other tenants are aware of the service.

Preparing your items

Follow these rules so crews can safely handle your items:

  • Place items curbside by 7:00 a.m. on your scheduled pickup day. Do not put them out before the scheduled day.
  • Items must be able to be handled by two people.
  • Upholstered furniture must be dry.
  • Mattresses and box springs must be dry and wrapped in plastic. Secure the wrap tightly so it does not tear during transport. You can reuse the plastic from your new mattress or buy plastic mattress bags at a local home improvement store.

What is not accepted?

The bulky item pickup service does not cover electronics, household hazardous waste, or large appliances. Do not place the following at the curb:

  • Refrigerators and freezers
  • Air conditioners, stoves, ovens, and microwaves
  • Washing machines and dryers
  • Televisions, computers, and printers
  • Batteries, paint, and motor oil
  • Construction debris, drywall, and lumber
  • Tires, propane tanks, and automotive parts
  • Yard trimmings, dirt, and sod

Where to take excluded items

You can drop off large appliances, electronics, and hazardous waste at the East Wrenford Waste Management Facility. The facility is located at 3500 Concession 4 Road, Wrenford, ON N4Q 7A1, and is open Monday to Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

For Household hazardous waste, the depot at East Wrenford is open on Saturdays from May to October.
