Why recycle mattresses and furniture?
Old mattresses, box springs, and furniture take up valuable space in our landfill. They also contain steel, foam, wood, and fabric that can be reused. By recycling these items instead of tossing them in your black cart or leaving them on the curb, you help keep Wrenford clean and reduce waste. This program is supported by Ontario's producer recycling framework, which ensures mattress materials are processed responsibly.
Where to recycle
You can drop off mattresses and furniture at two city locations:
- East Wrenford Waste Management Facility (3500 Concession 4 Road, Wrenford, ON N4Q 7A1). Open Monday to Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Northgate Drop-off Depot (1010 Northgate Boulevard, Wrenford, ON N4Q 4B8). Open Wednesday and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Call 519-555-0128 for current hours, gate access, and safety guidelines.
Fees and daily limits
There is a recycling fee of $25.00 per mattress or box spring. You can recycle up to four items per day per customer at either location. To keep costs low for residents, the city runs the Mattress Recycling Voucher Programme. Each household can get up to two free recycling visits per calendar year. You must show proof of residency and photo identification at the gate to use a voucher. Vouchers are non-transferable and expire on December 31.
How to prepare your items
Follow these steps to get your items accepted quickly:
- Remove all personal items, bedding, and loose debris.
- Wrap mattresses and box springs securely in heavy plastic sheeting or a mattress bag. Tape it shut completely.
- If the item has bedbugs, label it clearly with a permanent marker and keep it wrapped until you hand it over at the facility.
- Disassemble large furniture, bed frames, and headboards. Metal and wood pieces are sorted separately at the depot.
Rules and by-laws
Leaving mattresses or furniture on the street, in alleys, or in ravines is illegal dumping. Under the Waste management by-law, you can face fines for improper disposal. If you cannot bring the items to a depot, use our bulky item pickup service or contact a licensed private hauler. Do not place mattresses in your black cart or green bin.
