Council approves ward boundary changes for 2026 municipal election

On September 4, 2024, City Council approved the updated ward boundary maps for the 2026 municipal election. These changes will take effect on November 15, 2026, when the newly elected mayor and six councillors begin their four-year terms.

The Independent Ward Boundary Review Board completed its work after reviewing the latest population counts. The goal was to make sure each ward has roughly the same number of residents so every vote carries equal weight. The new map keeps the six-ward structure but shifts a few neighbourhood lines. For example, some streets in the Wildrye and Copper Ridge areas have been moved to better match community boundaries and service delivery needs.

You do not need to register for anything or fill out forms. Your property will automatically be placed in the correct ward for the 2026 election. If you are planning to run for mayor or city council, you will need to pick a ward to represent. The new boundaries make it easier to match your campaign area with where you live or work.

"Accurate ward boundaries ensure fair representation for every resident," says City Manager Robert Eng. "We want to make sure each councillor has a manageable and balanced area to serve, so they can focus on the issues that matter most to you."

The board also reviewed how ward lines affect local planning committees and community advisory groups. The changes help align political boundaries with the areas where residents already gather and collaborate.

You can view the full boundary maps, read the board's final report, and see exactly which streets fall in each ward on the Ward boundary review page. If you have questions about where your property is located or how the changes might affect your local services, you can Contact your councillor directly.

City Council will hold a public information session on September 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Wrenford City Hall. Residents are welcome to attend in person or watch the meeting livestreamed online.
