Construction begins on Ambrel Lake pathway extension

Construction on the Ambrel Lake pathway extension officially begins today, March 22, 2024. City of Wrenford crews and contracted contractors are breaking ground at Ambrel Lake Park to build a new multi-use path along the north shore.

The project will create a 1.2-kilometre pathway linking the existing trailhead to the boardwalk and picnic shelters. In addition to paving and signage, the project installs new catch basins and a bioswale to filter runoff before it reaches the lake, supporting the City's water quality goals.

Work will take place Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. A weekend night shift will run from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. for utility tie-ins to keep daytime disruption to a minimum. During working hours, the northbound lane on Ambrel Lake Road near the park entrance will be reduced to a single lane. Pedestrians will use a protected temporary walkway marked with construction signage.

A qualified environmental professional monitored the site for bird nesting before clearing began. No active nests were found in the trees that were removed. Crews will continue to watch for wildlife and will pause work if any are spotted.

"This pathway is a key piece of the Active Transportation Network Strategy, and the stormwater features will help protect Ambrel Lake's water quality for years to come," said Samuel Adeyemi, GM Infrastructure and Planning.

Please follow all construction signs and plan your visit around the changes. If you notice a safety concern or a missed utility mark, report it through the city's maintenance reporting tool.
