Civic Operations Centre fleet repairs continue May 2024

The Roads & Winter Maintenance team is continuing fleet repairs at the Civic Operations Centre, 455 Railside Road, through the end of May 2024. The extensive work ensures our heavy snow plows, salt trucks, and street sweepers are fully operational before the next winter season.

Crews are focused on engine overhauls, transmission repairs, and hydraulic system checks for the heavy fleet. While most repairs happen overnight or on weekends, daytime work is underway for light vehicles, pickup trucks, and equipment that do not require winter service. Some parking spaces near the Railside Road entrance may be temporarily unavailable for the maintenance crew's safety. Residents driving past the facility may notice increased activity and occasional detours for service vehicles.

Residents who notice a pothole, a missing street sign, or a malfunctioning traffic signal during this period are encouraged to report it through our online tool or by calling Wrenford 311. The Roads & Winter Maintenance team will continue to respond to safety reports as usual, even while the fleet is undergoing maintenance. If you see a large pothole or a broken street light, please use the report a pothole or street light reporting forms so crews can prioritize their response.

"We want to make sure every vehicle on the road is safe and reliable for the crews who depend on them every day," said James Whitford, Roads Superintendent. "Taking care of our equipment now means fewer breakdowns when the snow starts falling."

The City will complete the bulk of the repairs by June 1, 2024, giving crews time for final inspections and testing. For more information on how the City maintains our roads and winter service routes, visit the Roads & Winter Maintenance page.
