The City of Wrenford is updating the zoning maps for the area surrounding the Downtown Transit Terminal at 1 Market Square. The changes support transit-oriented development and make it easier for property owners to apply for new buildings that serve residents and commuters.
The updated maps apply to a small zone near the terminal and Market Square. They introduce a new Transit-Oriented Development District overlay. This overlay allows for mixed-use buildings that combine ground-floor retail or services with apartments above. It also sets clear rules for sidewalks, loading zones, and accessible routes to the terminal.
“We want the area around the transit terminal to feel active and welcoming all day long,” said Samuel Adeyemi, GM Infrastructure and Planning. “These map updates give property owners clear guidance on what can be built, while making sure the space works well for pedestrians and transit users.”
If you own property in the affected area, you can now use the updated maps to plan a project. The changes are part of the City’s long-term plan to grow the downtown in a way that supports public transit and local businesses. You can view the full map changes and submit a planning application through the Development Applications section on our website. The section also includes step-by-step guides for zoning bylaw amendments and site plan control.
Staff will review all applications against the new map rules and the City of Wrenford Official Plan. If a project needs a zoning bylaw amendment, it will go through a public notice period and a staff review. You can track the status of any application using the Find a planning application tool.
