City seeks input on first seniors housing strategy

WRENFORD, Sept. 25, 2024 — The City of Wrenford is seeking input on our first Seniors Housing Strategy to better understand and meet the housing needs of seniors and older adults in our community. Starting today, we are asking residents 55 and older, their families, and caregivers to share their experiences through online surveys and pop-up events across the city. As our population ages, many residents will have different housing needs, including changes in affordability, health support, and accessibility. This strategy will guide how the City plans for senior housing over the next several years.

The Seniors Housing Strategy will explore innovative housing solutions specific to seniors, take stock of existing housing options and identify gaps, and update design guidelines for senior-focused housing. It will also cover rezoning and resident relocation policies, increased partnerships with senior-serving organizations, and advocacy to improve collaboration with provincial and federal partners.

To make sure the strategy reflects the diverse needs of Wrenford’s older adults, we are asking seniors, Elders, adults 55+, and caregivers to share their experiences. You can help by taking our online survey, attending a pop-up engagement event, or using our Conversation Kit to lead a discussion with a group.

We want to hear directly from older Wrenford residents about what is working for them in their homes and what is missing, says Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. Your feedback will shape the policies, partnerships, and actions we develop to help seniors age comfortably in place.

You can get involved in the following ways:

  • Take the online survey from October 1 to November 15, 2024.
  • Attend a pop-up event at a location near you:
    • September 27: Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre, 1300 Ambrel Lake Road, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
    • October 3: Westbrook Community Arena, 40 Westbrook Drive, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
    • October 8: Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre, 400 Benchlands Drive, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Download the Conversation Kit to host a small group discussion or bring the survey to a community club or long-term care facility.

All input will be reviewed by City staff and presented to Council for consideration. Visit the Seniors housing strategy page to learn more, view the survey, and download the Conversation Kit.
