City launches annual emergency preparedness week campaign

Wrenford is launching its annual Emergency Preparedness Week campaign this week. The city-wide initiative aims to help residents and local businesses prepare for emergencies like power outages, floods, and extreme weather before they strike.

During the seven-day campaign, City staff and emergency partners will share practical steps to keep you and your family safe. The focus is on building a solid emergency kit, registering for the Wrenford Emergency Alert Network, and reviewing your household's evacuation plan. Whether it is a winter storm knocking out power or a flash flood along the Tamsin River, having a plan in place makes a big difference.

Residents are encouraged to use this week to take three simple actions. First, check your household emergency kit and make sure you have enough non-perishable food, water, and a first aid supply for at least three days. Second, sign up for emergency alerts so you receive warnings directly on your phone or landline. Third, review your family's evacuation routes and meeting spots, and check that your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working properly.

"Preparing your home for an emergency is one of the most important things a resident can do," says Liam O'Rourke, Community Emergency Management Coordinator. "We want to make sure everyone in Wrenford feels confident and ready, no matter what the weather brings."

Business owners can also find a checklist to help them keep operations running during a disruption. For more detailed planning guides and step-by-step instructions, visit our emergency preparedness and planning.
