On October 15, 2024, Wrenford City Council approved the 2025 arts and culture grants budget. The approved funding will support local artists, cultural organizations, and heritage groups throughout the city.
The budget allocates $2.4 million for the upcoming year. This money covers project grants for community events, operating support for established cultural groups, and capital improvements for public arts spaces. Council also approved an additional $150,000 for the annual Benchlands Folk Festival and Canada Day in the Park to ensure these popular events remain free and accessible for everyone.
Key recipients for this cycle include the Fallsview Arts Centre, Railside Gallery, and the Old Mill Museum & Archives. The funding will help these venues continue offering exhibitions, studio classes, and guided historical tours. New this year, the city is setting aside $200,000 specifically for neighbourhood cultural projects, giving local groups in areas like Northgate, Ambrel Lake, and Wildrye a chance to host their own community celebrations.
“These grants are an investment in the soul of our city,” said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. “When we back local artists and cultural groups, we build stronger neighbourhoods and give everyone a reason to gather and celebrate what makes Wrenford special.”
If you run a cultural organization or plan a community arts event, you can apply for a grant through the Community arts funding grants page. Proposals for 2025 open on January 15, 2025. You will need to submit your application online and include a brief project outline, a budget breakdown, and confirmation of your non-profit status. The Arts & Heritage team reviews all submissions and posts the final award list in early March.
The city’s support for the arts aligns with the long-term goals outlined in the arts and culture plan. This strategy focuses on expanding public art, protecting heritage buildings, and making cultural programming available to all residents.
