The City of Wrenford is launching a city-wide pothole repair program following damage from recent summer storms. Starting today, August 15, 2024, crews from Roads & Winter Maintenance will begin filling cracks and patches across all six wards. Residents can expect to see work trucks on main roads and residential streets over the next several weeks.
"We have been assessing the road network since the storms passed, and we are ready to tackle the damage before the leaves fall and the snow arrives," says James Whitford, Roads Superintendent. "Our crews are prioritizing high-traffic areas and intersections to keep drivers safe. We are also making sure all the work is done well so we do not have to come back next spring for the same spots."
The recent heavy rain and wind caused drainage backups and surface erosion on several streets. In some cases, water pooled in low spots and weakened the asphalt base. Crews will use hot-mix asphalt for permanent repairs on main roads and a cold-mix patching material for smaller potholes in residential areas until temperatures allow for a full resurfacing later this year.
Reporting road damage helps the City plan its repairs. When you report a pothole through our online service request form or by calling 519-555-0100, it creates a work order for our inspection team. Our crews visit reported sites to confirm the damage and schedule the repair. This keeps our lists accurate and ensures that the most critical spots get fixed first.
As we move into the fall, Roads & Winter Maintenance will shift its focus to preparing the road network for colder weather. This includes cleaning storm drains, checking street signs, and getting ready for the overnight Snow route parking bans that start on December 1. If you have questions about road work or need to report an issue, you can visit the Roads & Winter Maintenance page for more information, contact us at 519-555-0100, or drop by the Service Wrenford counter at Wrenford City Hall.
