City approves site plan for 120-unit affordable housing project in Northgate

At its meeting on April 10, 2024, Wrenford Council approved the site plan for a new 120-unit affordable housing development on Northgate Boulevard in Ward 3. The project will bring mixed-income rental units to the city's north end, adding much-needed options for families and seniors.

The approved site plan follows months of staff review and public consultation. The development will include a mix of studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom suites spread across two four-storey buildings. Ground-floor retail units will face the street, and the site will feature shared green space, secure bicycle storage, and accessible parking.

"This project is a strong step toward meeting our city's housing goals," said Samuel Adeyemi, GM Infrastructure and Planning. "By working closely with the developer and community members, we ensured the design fits the neighbourhood while delivering quality, affordable homes."

The development is guided by the City of Wrenford Official Plan and the Zoning By-law, which encourage higher-density housing near transit and community services. The City will work with the developer to monitor construction progress and ensure all conditions of the site plan approval are met.

If you live nearby, you will see construction signage once crews begin work in the coming weeks. Residents who have questions about the project or want to view the approved plans can visit the Find a planning application. The planning department will continue to update the public as construction moves forward.
