The City of Wrenford is announcing the winterization schedule for the Wildrye Splash Pad at Wildrye Park. The splash pad will close to the public on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, to allow City crews to drain water lines, clean the spray deck, and protect the equipment from freezing temperatures.
Winterization work is weather dependent. If freezing conditions arrive earlier, crews will move the dates forward. The splash pad is scheduled to reopen for the 2025 season in late June, following the city's standard operating window for outdoor splash pads.
"We want to make sure the splash pad is fully operational and safe for families when the weather warms up," says Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. "Draining the system now prevents any damage to the pipes and pumps during the cold months."
Residents looking for water recreation before the splash pad closes can visit the Kingfisher Outdoor Pool in the Kingfisher neighbourhood. The pool will operate its regular hours until Labour Day. Indoor swimming is available year-round at the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre and the Northgate Aquatic Centre.
If you notice a problem at the splash pad before it closes, or if you need to report a maintenance issue at any City park, please use the online form on the Report a park maintenance issue page. For more information about splash pads and playgrounds, visit the Find playgrounds and splash pads page.
