With the holiday season here, the City is announcing a temporary garbage bag allowance to help Wrenford households manage extra waste. Starting Thursday, December 26 and running through Wednesday, January 8, 2025, residents can place one extra bag of garbage at the curb on their regular collection day without needing a bag tag.
Because Wrenford collects garbage on a biweekly schedule, this allowance applies to your regular pickup day during the two-week period. You do not need to purchase or apply for a special tag. Just ensure the bag is tied securely and placed next to your black cart. If you have stored items or holiday decorations, check the Waste Wizard online to make sure you are sorting everything correctly.
Even with the extra allowance, the City encourages everyone to keep waste down where possible. Reusing gift bags, choosing recyclable wrapping paper, and recycling cardboard and plastic packaging all make a difference. You can also divert food scraps and yard trimmings into your Green Bin or backyard composter. After the holidays, remember that curbside Christmas tree pickup happens the first two weeks of January, so save your trees until then.
"Waste generation naturally spikes around the holidays, but a little planning goes a long way," says Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. "Using the extra bag allowance responsibly and continuing to sort your recycling and organics helps us keep our landfill running smoothly and our streets clean."
