The City of Wrenford is pleased to announce that City Council has approved $420,000 in arts and culture grants. You will see this funding in action at festivals, exhibitions, performances, and community events across your neighbourhoods. The funding was approved at the February 12 council meeting and supports 36 local organizations and projects.
“These grants are an investment in the soul of our city,” said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. “When you support local artists, cultural groups, and community spaces, you help make Wrenford a more vibrant and welcoming place for everyone to live, work, and play.”
The 2024 allocations cover three main streams under the Community Arts Funding and Arts & Heritage Operating programs. The City allocated $185,000 to 20 organizations for multi-year operating support, $210,000 to 15 groups for project-based community arts funding, and $25,000 in capital support for a new public art installation along the Tamsin River Trail.
Highlights from this year’s recipients include:
- Benchlands Folk Festival Society ($45,000): Funding to expand its annual August event and add free youth workshops.
- Wrenford Theatre Company ($32,000): Support for its spring and autumn production seasons at the Fallsview Arts Centre.
- Mill Street Mural Project ($15,000): A community-led initiative to refresh the heritage walls in the downtown core.
- Tamsin Valley Children’s Choir ($28,000): Operating support to keep youth programs free and accessible.
Each grant was reviewed by the Arts & Heritage Committee, which evaluates applications based on community impact, accessibility, and alignment with the city’s cultural goals. The distribution of funds supports the City’s strategic priority to build a diverse and culturally rich community, as outlined in the Wrenford Arts and Culture Plan 2025–2035.
“We are incredibly grateful to the City for recognizing the value of the arts in our daily lives,” said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. “This funding allows your local organizations to plan ahead, hire local talent, and bring high-quality programming to people in your community.”
