On December 5, 2024, the City of Wrenford announced the list of outdoor skating rinks for the 2024–2025 winter season, located across six neighbourhood parks. You can view the full map and opening updates on the outdoor skating rink locations page.
This year, the City will maintain outdoor rinks at Riverside Flats Park, Ambrel Lake Park, Benchlands Lookout Park, Centennial Gardens, Hollis Park, and Wildrye Park. Rink crews will begin flooding the concrete pads once overnight temperatures stay at or below minus four degrees Celsius. You will know a rink is ready to skate when hockey nets are set up and evening lights are turned on.
For your safety, the City is reminding everyone that storm ponds and natural waterways are strictly closed to public skating. Water underneath the ice can create soft spots and sudden thin areas that are extremely dangerous. Please stay off all storm ponds and stick to the prepared City rinks. Skating on natural ice or storm ponds is a violation of the City's park by-laws and can result in a fine.
Skating is free for all residents and visitors. You can bring your own equipment or rent skates at the rink desks when they are fully staffed. Please check the public skating schedule for daily hours and maintenance closures. Remember that the overnight on-street parking ban runs from December 1 to March 31, so plan your trip to the rink early or use transit.
"These rinks are a beloved part of our winter tradition, and we are committed to keeping them safe and accessible for everyone," said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. "We encourage families to bundle up, follow the posted rules, and enjoy the season together."
