Ambrel Lake Park pathway expansion project breaks ground

WRENFORD, ON — November 18, 2024 — Construction has begun on the Ambrel Lake Loop expansion at Ambrel Lake Park, creating a continuous, accessible pathway around the north and south shores. The project gives residents a safer, all-season route for walking, rolling, and cycling through one of the city's most popular green spaces.

The project adds a continuous loop along the north shore, connecting it smoothly to the existing south shore pathway and the wider trail network. Crews are currently installing the new paved surface, upgrading drainage, and planting native shrubs along the shoreline. Work is expected to finish in the spring of 2025, in time for the warmer months.

During construction, the north shore section will be closed to pedestrians and cyclists. Detour signs will guide you to the south shore pathway and the main trail network until the work is complete. The boardwalk and playground areas remain open, but please watch for construction vehicles entering and exiting the site.

"This expansion is a big step toward making our park system truly accessible for everyone," says Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. "We heard from residents who wanted a smooth, continuous loop that works year-round, and we are delivering that right here."

The project is part of the city's Active Transportation Network Strategy, which focuses on connecting neighbourhoods, parks, and transit stops with protected routes. It follows recent upgrades along the Corvid Creek Ravine and the new Wildrye Connector, and it fits into the broader plan to expand the 64-kilometre trail network.

Crews are working Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. We know construction brings noise and traffic changes, and we appreciate your patience as we improve this space. For the latest updates on road and trail closures, check the Service Alerts page.

Once finished, the expanded loop will link directly to the park's existing washrooms, picnic shelters, and the wider trail system. It will also provide a safer, separated route for families and commuters heading toward the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre and the Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre.
