Residential plowing has begun on green routes across the city following a heavy storm that dropped more than 15 centimetres of snow over the past two days. Crews from Roads & Winter Maintenance will clear the main collector streets in your neighbourhood starting tomorrow morning.
The City’s winter maintenance plan targets green routes first when snowfall reaches the 8 centimetre mark. These routes are your main transit corridors and connect directly to arterial roads like Benchlands Drive and Northgate Boulevard. Grey routes, which are smaller residential streets, will follow once the green routes are clear. You can check the current clearing progress on the City website.
To keep crews moving safely and efficiently, please move your vehicles off the signed green routes before 2:00 a.m. tomorrow. The overnight parking ban runs from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. under the Winter Maintenance and Parking By-law. These bans are active from December 1 to March 31 each year. Vehicles parked on these streets during the ban will be ticketed and towed. Sign up for service alerts to get text notifications before plows arrive in your area.
"While the overnight ban is necessary to keep our roads clear, we know it can be inconvenient for residents," says City Manager Robert Eng. "We encourage everyone to plan ahead, remove their vehicles by 1:30 a.m., and stay at least three car lengths back from the plows and sanders when they are working."
Once your green route is done, crews will move on to the grey routes over the next few days. For the full winter schedule, safety tips, and information on snow route parking exemptions, visit the Roads & Winter Maintenance page.
