City announces 2023–2024 outdoor rink locations

The City of Wrenford is pleased to announce the opening of six outdoor skating rinks for the 2023–2024 winter season. The rinks will be located at Westbrook Community Arena, Eastfield Twin Arenas, Riverside Flats Park, Benchlands Lookout Park, Ambrel Lake Park, and Centennial Gardens.

Surface flooding will begin in early December to build a safe base. You can track progress on the outdoor rink locations page. When hockey nets are installed and evening lights are turned on, the ice is ready for you to skate.

As winter sets in, the City wants to remind you that skating on stormwater ponds and natural ice surfaces is not permitted. These areas present unpredictable ice thickness and hidden hazards that can lead to dangerous falls.

"The safety of our residents and visitors is our top priority," said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. "While it is tempting to skate on frozen ponds or creek edges, the ice can be thin and unstable. We encourage everyone to stick to our maintained, inspected rinks where conditions are monitored weekly."

Skating is free at all City rinks. You should wear a helmet. Visitors should follow park rules and by-law, which require keeping pets on a two-metre leash and respecting quiet hours after 10:00 p.m.
