The City of Wrenford is reminding residents how to recycle their Christmas trees after the holidays. Starting the first week of January, you can leave your tree curbside for free pickup or drop it off at a local facility.
You can place your live Christmas tree out for curbside collection during the first two weeks of January. Please cut the tree in half to make it easier for collection crews to handle. If you prefer to drop it off yourself, the East Wrenford Waste Management Facility and the Northgate Drop-off Depot accept live trees year-round. Both locations also take yard trimmings and green bin materials.
Local Lions Clubs are hosting free Christmas tree chipping events this January. These community events turn your tree into mulch for local parks and community gardens. Visit the Christmas tree recycling and composting page to find dates and locations in your neighbourhood.
To get the best results from recycling, please follow these steps:
- Remove all tinsel, ornaments, hooks, and tree stands before recycling.
- Do not place treated wood, artificial trees, or tree stands in your Green Bin or curbside pickup.
- Keep live trees dry and free of snow or ice before collection day.
"Turning your Christmas tree into mulch helps keep our parks green and reduces the amount of waste we send to the landfill," says Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor.
