How to prepare your tree
Before you set your Christmas tree out for recycling, please remove all decorations, tinsel, and electrical lights. Take the tree out of its stand and drain any water from the base. If your tree is too large for your green bin, cut it into pieces no longer than 60 centimetres.
Curbside pickup
Wrenford collects Christmas trees curbside during the first two weeks of January. You can leave your tree out on the morning of your regular collection day. Place it next to your green bin so the truck crew can see it. There is no specific pickup date for individual streets, but all trees will be collected by the end of the two-week window.
Drop-off locations
If you prefer to bring your tree in yourself, you can drop it off for free at these City facilities through January 31:
- East Wrenford Waste Management Facility — 3500 Concession 4 Road, Wrenford, ON N4Q 7A1. Open Monday to Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Northgate Drop-off Depot — 1010 Northgate Boulevard, Wrenford, ON N4Q 4B8. Open Wednesday and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
What about artificial trees?
The City does not recycle artificial Christmas trees or trees sprayed with artificial snow or foam. If your artificial tree is still in good condition, consider donating it to a local charity or community group. If it is broken or worn out, place it in your black cart for regular garbage collection.
Where does the compost go?
Every year, Wrenford turns thousands of Christmas trees into nutrient-rich mulch through the Wrenford Green Mulch programme. This recycled wood compost is used to improve soil in City parks, community gardens, and the Tamsin River Trail System. You can also pick up free compost bags at the drop-off depots during the spring cleanup season.
