How to sign up
You can get alerts through the Wrenford Alerts app, by text message, email, or phone call. Download the free Wrenford Alerts app for iOS or Android, or visit the Sign up for city emergency alerts page to register by phone or email. You can also sign up by calling 311 inside city limits or 519-555-0100 from outside.
Types of alerts
The system sends two types of notifications:
- Critical alerts: These are for severe events that need immediate action, like an evacuation order or a boil water notice. You cannot turn these off.
- Advisory alerts: These keep you informed about situations that might affect your neighbourhood, such as road closures, weather warnings, or utility interruptions. You can adjust these in your settings.
Set your locations and preferences
Add your home, work, and any places you visit often so you only get alerts for areas that matter to you. You can turn on the “Follow Me” feature to receive alerts for your current location. In the app or online, you can also choose notification sounds and which advisory categories you want to receive.
Accessibility and language
Wrenford Alerts works with your device’s settings. The app is available in the language of your phone and includes a built-in translator for more than 30 languages. The system is fully accessible and meets Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. You can pair the alerts with visual or vibrating notifications on your phone. If you need extra help setting up the system, contact the Accessibility Coordinator at 519-555-0142 or email [email protected].
What to do when you receive an alert
Read the instructions carefully. Critical alerts will tell you exactly what to do, such as where to go or how to shelter in place. Check the Emergency Management page for more details on how the city responds to crises. Keep your phone charged and consider keeping a battery-powered radio handy in case networks go down.
