How the City keeps you safe
The City of Wrenford uses local laws, called by-laws, to keep our streets, parks and public spaces safe and welcoming. These rules cover everything from noise and parking to how people behave in public.
Common by-laws you should know
- Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075: Rules for on-street parking, winter parking bans and loading zones.
- Noise By-law 2016-122: Quiet hours and acceptable noise levels for your neighbourhood.
- Property Standards By-law 2019-112: Keeping your home and yard in good shape.
- Responsible Pet Ownership By-law 2018-063: Leash rules and designated off-leash areas.
- Clean Yards By-law 2019-113: Yard waste and garbage disposal rules.
Rules for public behaviour
To make sure everyone can enjoy our community spaces, the City enforces clear rules against anti-social behaviour. You must not:
- Fight or get into physical altercations in public areas.
- Harass, threaten or bully others on streets, in parks or at transit stops.
- Loiter in a way that blocks pedestrians or business entrances.
- Carry visible weapons or noxious substances (like pepper spray or chemical irritants) in public places.
- Urinate or defecate in public spaces or on private property where it is visible to others.
- Spit on sidewalks, trails or transit vehicles.
Violations of these rules can result in fines between $50 and $300. Our goal is to encourage respectful behaviour, but By-law Enforcement officers are ready to intervene when necessary.
How to report a by-law infraction
If you see a violation, you can report it to By-law Enforcement. Please call 311 from inside city limits or 519-555-0100 from outside. You can also submit a complaint online through the By-law Enforcement page.
When you report an issue, please have the following ready:
- Your name and contact information.
- The exact location of the issue.
- A clear description of what you saw.
- Any photos or videos, if available.
All reports are kept confidential. We do not accept anonymous complaints so our officers can follow up if needed. You can also visit the Wrenford City Hall for in-person assistance.
Viewing by-law documents
You can read full copies of any city by-law online. If you need a printed version, visit the City Clerk's office at Wrenford City Hall (100 Mercer Street). There may be a small copying fee for hard copies.
The City's By-law Enforcement officers are trained under the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019. They can issue tickets, issue orders to fix problems, or in serious cases, refer matters to the Provincial Offences Court.
