What you can access
If you are facing homelessness or housing instability, the City of Wrenford provides emergency shelter, supportive housing referrals, and outreach programs. Our services aim to connect you with safe, stable housing and the health supports you need.
Our outreach teams work throughout the city, including along the Tamsin River and in the Benchlands and Northgate neighbourhoods. They distribute winter clothing, hygiene kits, and meals. They also help you connect with health services and apply for income support. If you encounter an encampment, do not move your belongings. Our outreach workers will speak with you respectfully and help you find a safe place to go.
How to access emergency shelter and housing
During cold weather, the City opens Safe Nights Wrenford to provide indoor beds. In summer, cooling shelters operate during heat waves. You can walk in at any time. No appointment is required. You may bring a pet if it is on a leash and up to date on vaccinations.
To access supportive housing or rental assistance, you must complete an intake through our Coordinated Access Program. A housing navigator will review your situation, verify your identity, and match you with available units. This service is free. You do not need to be receiving Ontario Works to apply. The navigator will also help you apply for emergency rental assistance if you face immediate eviction.
For long-term, below-market options, explore non-market housing listings. If you are 55 or older, visit supportive housing for older adults to learn about age-friendly buildings and on-site programming.
Fees and rules
Emergency shelter stays are completely free. Supportive housing rents are set at 30 per cent of your net monthly income. If your income changes, you must tell your housing coordinator so the rent can be adjusted.
All residents must follow the by-laws regarding noise, waste disposal, and conduct in shared spaces. The Wrenford Police Service handles criminal matters and does not manage shelter intake or housing applications. The Police Service Board governs policing in Wrenford.
