About the grant

We want every child in Wrenford to have a safe, fun place to play. The Accessible Playground Grant helps community groups, neighbourhood associations and developers fund new inclusive playgrounds or upgrade existing ones. Inclusive playgrounds use universal design so children and caregivers of all abilities can play together.

How much funding is available?

Grants of up to $30,000 are available for each site. Funding covers playground equipment, rubber or mulch surfacing, wide pathways, sensory panels and seating areas. You must match at least fifty percent of the total project cost with other funds or in-kind support.

Who can apply?

  • Registered neighbourhood associations
  • Community charities and non-profits
  • Private developers building new housing subdivisions
  • School boards and community organisations

Applicants must be based in Wrenford and have a clear plan for long-term maintenance of the playground.

What makes a playground accessible?

An accessible playground goes beyond a simple ramp. It follows universal design principles so everyone can participate. Good features include:

  • Wide, firm pathways that allow wheelchairs and strollers to move easily
  • Unitary surfacing like poured-in-place rubber to reduce fall impact
  • Wheelchair-accessible swings and spinners
  • Sensory play elements, such as tactile panels and musical features
  • High-contrast colouring on steps and gates for visibility
  • Quiet zones and shaded seating for caregivers

How to apply

We accept applications on a rolling basis until the annual budget is fully allocated. You can submit your proposal through the Wrenford eGrants portal. You will need to provide a site plan, a budget breakdown and a letter of support from your neighbourhood.

Applications are reviewed by the Parks & Trails department and the Accessibility Advisory Committee. We aim to notify applicants within four weeks of submission. Successful applicants must complete the project within twelve months of receiving the grant.
