Where programs are held
We run preschool programs at several recreation centres across the city. You can choose the location that is closest to you. Programs are held at the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre, Northgate Aquatic Centre, Westbrook Community Arena, Eastfield Twin Arenas, and Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre.
Each site has a dedicated classroom, an indoor play area, and access to outdoor greenspace. If you need help finding the right centre, use our facility map.
A day in preschool
Our daily schedule mixes structured learning with free play. A typical day includes:
- Free play time: Children explore tabletop materials, practice sharing, and build motor skills.
- Circle time: Kids learn to follow directions, work in groups, and practice early reading skills.
- Creative play: Music, movement, and art activities build self-confidence and body awareness.
- Physical activity: Running, hopping, throwing, and jumping develop fundamental movement skills.
- Snack time: We encourage a nut-free snack and a water bottle each day to support healthy eating.
Staff qualifications
All licensed preschool programs are run by qualified staff who hold an Early Childhood Education certificate, Intermediate First Aid certification, and High Five Principles of Healthy Childhood Development training. Staff also complete a Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search. The City requires annual mandatory staff training in child development, behaviour support, and infection control.
Fees and financial help
The standard annual fee for a full-year program is $3,850.00. Because these are licensed programs, they qualify for the Ontario Child Care Affordability Grants. These grants often reduce your monthly cost significantly. If the grant does not cover the full fee, you may be eligible for a Child Care Fee Subsidy based on your household income.
For a full breakdown of fees and to see if you qualify, check the subsidy income limits. To start an application, visit the subsidy program page.
Registration and accessibility
Registration for the fall session opens the last Monday of August. You can register online through the Wrenford Recreation Portal or in person at the front desk of any recreation centre. Payment is due at registration, and refunds are processed according to provincial grant schedules.
Our programs welcome children with all abilities. Please let our staff know about any disabilities or behavioural needs when you register. If your child requires a one-on-one support worker, it is the parent's responsibility to arrange and fund that aid.
