Water efficient appliances and fixtures

Learn how to save water and lower your bill with efficient home fixtures, appliances, and the City's rebate programme.

Why save water at home

Using less water helps keep the Tamsin River healthy and lowers your monthly water bill. Water and sewer charges are based on how much water you use. Every litre you save means less money in your pocket and less strain on the city's water treatment plant.

Easy upgrades you can make

You do not need to replace everything at once. Small changes add up over time. Here are the best places to start.

Kitchen

  • Dishwashers: Newer models use up to 50 per cent less water than washing by hand. Look for high-efficiency ratings.
  • Faucet aerators: These small screens mix air with water. They keep the pressure strong while using less water. You can buy them at any hardware store or borrow one from the Wrenford Public Library.
  • Ice makers: Turn off automatic ice makers when you are not using them to stop waste.

Bathroom

  • Low-flow showerheads: Replacing an old showerhead can save thousands of litres a year. New models meet provincial standards for flow rate.
  • Toilets: Toilets made before 1994 use a lot of water. Upgrading to a high-efficiency toilet saves water every time you flush.
  • Faucet aerators: Install them on bathroom sinks to cut flow without losing pressure.

Laundry

  • Washing machines: High-efficiency machines use about 30 per cent less water and 30 per cent less energy. They also spin clothes drier, so your dryer runs for a shorter time.
  • Full loads only: Wait until you have a full load before running your machine.

Rebates and support

The City of Wrenford wants to help you save money. Our WaterWise Appliance Rebate programme gives you cash back when you buy qualifying water-efficient appliances. You can claim up to $200.00 for a high-efficiency washing machine and $50.00 for a water-efficient dishwasher. Keep your receipts and submit the claim form through Service Wrenford 311 or bring it to City Hall.
