How the Water Auto-Debit Programme works

Save yourself the hassle of writing cheques and mailing bills. The Water Auto-Debit Programme takes the worry out of water billing by automatically withdrawing your bimonthly bill from your bank account. Payments happen on the due date printed on your statement, so you will never miss a payment or pay a late fee. You can also use this option if you want to split your water bill into monthly pre-authorized payments instead of one large charge every two months.

How to enroll

Getting started is simple. You will need your current water bill to find your 10-digit account number and a voided cheque or bank account verification form.

  1. Download the Auto-Debit Application Form.
  2. Fill in your personal and banking details. Make sure the account number matches the one on your water statement.
  3. Attach your voided cheque or bank verification form.
  4. Submit the form by email to [email protected], by mail to Wrenford City Hall, or by dropping it off at the Service Wrenford counter.

Our team reviews applications within 5 business days. Once approved, your first automatic withdrawal will be scheduled for the next billing cycle. Any bills currently due must still be paid by their due date.

Managing your account

Changing banks or account numbers: If your banking details change, notify us at least 10 business days before your next bill is due. You can submit a new form through the same channels. Payments sent to an old account will not be processed, and you remain responsible for any late fees until we update your file.

Pausing or cancelling: You can pause the programme for a single billing cycle or cancel it entirely at any time. Just email your request to our billing team or visit City Hall. Cancellations take effect on your next billing cycle. If you cancel, you will switch back to receiving paper statements or e-bills and will need to make manual payments by the due date.

Insufficient funds: If your bank account does not have enough money to cover the withdrawal, your bank will decline the payment. The City will not charge a fee for a declined withdrawal, but you will still owe the full amount. Please contact us right away if you expect a payment issue so we can work out a temporary arrangement.

Fees and rules

  • There is no fee to enroll in or use the Auto-Debit Programme.
  • Automatic payments avoid the 2.5% monthly late fee applied to accounts past due for 30 days.
  • The City processes withdrawals on the due date shown on your statement. If that date falls on a weekend or statutory holiday, the withdrawal occurs on the first business day after.
  • You must keep your banking information up to date. The City is not responsible for missed payments caused by outdated account details.
