Getting around on foot
Wrenford is a walkable city. Whether you are heading to the Tamsin River Trail System, the Downtown Transit Terminal, or just walking to the corner store, you will find a connected network of sidewalks and multi-use paths. The City maintains over 64 kilometres of trails through the Tamsin River Trail System, linking Riverside Flats Park, Ambrel Lake Park, and the Benchlands Lookout. Most residential streets have sidewalks on at least one side, and the City works with developers to ensure new neighbourhoods like Wildrye include continuous paths. We also run Community Walking Groups every month to help seniors and youth explore our parks safely.
Keeping paths clear in winter
Snow and ice can make walking difficult. After a storm, the City prioritizes clearing main roads, bus stops, and transit shelters. Property owners are responsible for clearing the sidewalks next to their homes and businesses within 48 hours of snowfall or ice. You can pick up free sand for ice control at the East Wrenford Waste Management Facility or the Northgate Drop-off Depot. If you have a medical condition or mobility issue that makes clearing your sidewalk difficult, you can apply for a Sidewalk Clearance Exemption Permit. The application fee is $50.00, but we waive it for low-income residents.
Accessible routes and transit
Wrenford follows the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) to make sure everyone can get around safely. The City has installed curb ramps, tactile paving, and audible crossing signals at many intersections. All fixed-route buses are equipped with ramps or lifts, and low-floor buses are used on Routes 3, 7, and 11. The Downtown Transit Terminal is fully accessible, and Wrenford Access provides door-to-door specialized transit for residents who cannot use regular buses. You can book trips up to seven days in advance through the Wrenford Transit app or by calling 311. For help with transit passes or route planning, visit our Accessibility Resource Desk in Room 105 at the terminal.
Reporting problems
If you see a cracked sidewalk, a missing streetlight, or a tree branch blocking a path, please let the City know. You can report sidewalk issues online, request a new street light, or report a tree or branch hazard. The City's Roads & Winter Maintenance team maintains bicycle parking facilities and works to improve crosswalks and safety zones. For questions about accessibility standards or to request a route review, contact the Accessibility Coordinator.
