Car-sharing networks
Need a car for a quick errand or a day trip? Join a local car-share service. You can reserve a vehicle by smartphone app, website, or phone. Vehicles are parked at marked spots all over the city, from downtown to the suburbs. You pay by the minute, hour, or day. This saves you the cost of buying, insuring, and maintaining a personal vehicle.
Current car-share operators in Wrenford:
- RiverRide: A one-way service. Pick up a car at one spot and drop it off at another.
- Wrenford Go: A two-way service. You must pick up and return the car to the same designated parking spot.
Car-share parking rules
Car-share vehicles have marked parking spots in private lots and on city streets.
- Metered parking: You can park an actively rented car-share vehicle at a meter for free for up to two hours.
- Time-limited zones: As of October 30, 2026, a pilot program lets one-way car-share users drop off vehicles in zones with posted limits of one, two, or three hours.
- Do not stop in "no stopping" areas or where other restrictions apply. Operators must follow the city by-law and pay any fines if a vehicle overstays its limit.
For full details, see section 23 of the Parking bylaws and regulations.
Carpooling and ride-sharing
Add passengers to your daily commute or join a driver heading your way. Sharing a ride cuts down on traffic, saves you money on gas, and helps the environment.
- Formal carpooling: Register for free through the Wrenford Commute Portal. You can list your route, preferred days, and pickup spots. The system matches you with others going the same direction.
- Ride-sharing: Use licensed ride-hailing services or charter buses for group trips. Visit the Limos, ride-hailing, and taxis page for street parking rules.
- Employer programs: Many local businesses and Tamsin College run their own shuttle services. Check with your employer or school.
Why share a ride?
- Save money: Split gas, tolls, and parking costs. Avoid insurance and maintenance fees.
- Reduce traffic: Fewer cars mean less congestion on Mercer Street and Benchlands Drive.
- Help the environment: Less idling and fewer emissions improve air quality around the Tamsin River and our neighbourhoods.
- Build community: Meet neighbours and build connections while commuting.
- Flexible travel: Perfect for occasional trips, grocery runs, or visiting the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre when you don't want to park downtown.
