What is a winter service route change?
Wrenford divides the city into six winter sectors. Each sector follows a set route for snow plowing and salt spreading. Main roads are cleared when snow reaches five centimetres. Residential streets are cleared when snow reaches eight centimetres. If your neighbourhood has changed, or if you have a special need, you can ask for your street to be moved to a different route.
Who can request a change?
Property owners and residents can request a route change. Common reasons include:
- New subdivisions or streets that need to be added to a route.
- Streets that were accidentally left off a route after a recent development.
- Changes in traffic patterns that make a street safer on a different route.
How to submit a request
You can submit a request in three ways:
- Call 311 from inside city limits, or 519-555-0112 for the Civic Operations Centre.
- Visit us in person at the Roads office, 455 Railside Road, Wrenford, ON N4Q 3K7, Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Submit an online request through the Service Wrenford portal.
When you call or visit, please have your property address and the name of the street you want changed. Our roads staff will review your request against traffic volume, safety data, and the current plowing schedule.
Processing time and fees
Requests are reviewed on a rolling basis throughout the spring and summer. We aim to finalize all route adjustments by October so crews are ready for the first snowfall. There is no fee to request a route change. If your street is added to a main road route, the City covers all winter maintenance costs. If a street is moved to a residential route, it will follow the eight-centimetre snow rule.
If your request is denied, staff will explain why and suggest alternative solutions. Sometimes a street cannot be moved due to equipment size limits or traffic flow requirements. You can reapply the following spring if circumstances change.
Winter service rules to know
Once a route is set, the City follows a strict schedule. You can help your street get cleared faster by:
- Keeping vehicles off the street from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. between December 1 and March 31.
- Not parking in front of your driveway or fire hydrant.
- Leaving your waste carts off the street during snow clearing operations.
If you need an exemption from the overnight parking ban due to a mobility condition, you can apply for a snow route parking ban exemption. For details on how long the City waits before plowing a route, see the snow clearing and sidewalk plowing page.
