What your property tax pays for

Your property tax helps pay for the services and infrastructure we all share in Wrenford. This includes road maintenance, snow and ice clearing, garbage and recycling collection, water and wastewater treatment, fire and paramedic services, parks and trails, and community programs. A portion also goes to the Wrenford Public Library Board, which operates independently but receives municipal funding.

Ontario law requires us to collect taxes for the provincial education system and the Seniors Affordable Housing program. These are not set by the City of Wrenford.

How your tax is calculated

Your total property tax is based on your property's assessed value multiplied by the approved tax rates. The City of Wrenford divides property into four classes: residential, non-residential, multi-family/apartment, and farmland. Each class has its own set of rates.

To see exactly what you owe, use the Property tax calculator or check your Property assessment notice. The notice shows your official assessed value and the roll number you will need for all tax transactions.

2026 property tax rates

Council approved the 2026 tax rates through By-laws on January 15, 2026. These rates apply to the 2026 taxation year.

Property Class Municipal Education Seniors Affordable Housing Total
Residential 0.0071023 0.0026428 0.0000295 0.0097746
Non-Residential 0.0189450 0.0042655 0.0000295 0.0232400

Farmland 0.0098500 0.0026428 0.0000295 0.0125223

Rates are expressed per dollar of assessed value. For example, a residential property assessed at $400,000 would pay $400,000 × 0.0097746 = $3,909.84 in total property taxes before any local improvement charges or supplementary taxes.

Understanding your bill

Your property tax bill may include charges beyond the base rates listed above. These can include:

  • Local Improvement charges: Special assessments for projects like new sidewalks, street lights, or sanitary sewers that directly benefit your property.
  • Supplementary tax bills: Issued when a property changes ownership or when new construction increases the assessed value.
  • Waste and utility fees: Some bills combine municipal taxes with water and wastewater service charges.
