Our sustainability goals
Wrenford is committed to protecting the Tamsin River and our local ecosystems while building a cleaner, more resilient city. Our Wrenford Sustainability Framework 2030 sets clear targets for waste diversion, resource conservation, and climate resilience. We aim to divert 70 per cent of our waste from landfill by 2030, up from the current rate, by working with residents, businesses, and community groups.
How you can help reach zero waste
Achieving zero waste means changing how we view and manage what we throw away. You can play a big part in these goals:
- Divert correctly: Use your black cart, blue bin, and green bin according to the waste collection schedule. When in doubt, check the Waste Wizard online tool.
- Reduce and reuse: Join the Wrenford Reuse Network to share or donate salvageable goods. Attend Spring Salvage Day to find building materials and household items.
- Conserve water and energy: Install low-flow fixtures and use the Water Conservation Toolkit. Switch to energy-efficient appliances and apply for a WaterWise Appliance Rebate.
- Protect our natural spaces: Keep our parks and the Tamsin River Trail free of litter. Report illegal dumping through our online reporting tool.
Community programs and outreach
Our environmental services team runs several programs to help Wrenford residents and businesses reduce their footprint:
- Waste Wise Schools: Free classroom workshops and facility tours for students in grades four to seven. Contact [email protected] to book.
- Downtown Wrenford BIA Zero Waste Challenge: A partnership with local merchants to provide compost bins and reduce single-use items in the downtown core.
- Tamsin College Campus Waste Initiative: A campus-wide no-sort recycling and electronics drop-off programme that keeps hundreds of tonnes out of the landfill each year.
- Wrenford General Hospital Green Team: Hospital staff and volunteers drive waste reduction and composting initiatives across the facility.
