Compost available for residents

Drop off yard waste for free, pick up compost, and buy a backyard composter.

Drop off yard waste for free

Wrenford residents can bring yard waste to the City's drop-off depots at no charge. We accept leaves, grass clippings, garden plants, small branches, and prunings. We do not accept stumps, logs, dirt, or sod.

East Wrenford Waste Management Facility
3500 Concession 4 Road, Wrenford, ON N4Q 7A1
Monday to Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Northgate Drop-off Depot
1010 Northgate Boulevard, Wrenford, ON N4Q 4B8
Wednesday and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Load your vehicle so the material fits safely. Large loads that fill a pickup truck bed are welcome. Do not mix yard waste with garbage, recycling, or hazardous materials. If you bring diseased branches, place them in the separate pile marked at the entrance.

Pick up free compost and mulch

Each spring and summer, the City turns collected yard waste and green bin organics into rich compost and mulch. You can take it home for your garden, flower beds, or lawn. The compost is free while supplies last.

At the East Wrenford Waste Management Facility, you may pick up to four 5-gallon pails of compost or mulch per visit. The free programme is for residential use only. Please bring your own pails or sturdy containers.

Compost and mulch are available from May through September. Once the stock is gone, the programme ends for the year.

Get a backyard composter

Starting waste at home cuts down on what goes into your green bin and keeps your garden healthy. The City sells simple backyard composters at City Hall and all recreation centres. The cost is $45.00, which includes tax and delivery to your door. You can also pick it up the same day.

The composter holds 300 litres and features a secure lid and a front hatch for easy removal of finished compost. It fits neatly on a patio or in a small yard. You can pay by cash, cheque, debit, or credit card.

What to compost at home

A backyard composter works best with fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, tea bags, eggshells, and garden trimmings. Keep the pile moist and turn it every few weeks to speed up breakdown. Do not add meat, dairy, bones, oily foods, pet waste, or diseased plants. These items attract pests or do not break down safely in a small bin.

For items that do not go in a backyard composter, use your weekly green bin. You can also line a kitchen counter pail with a paper bag or newspaper to keep your kitchen clean before you empty it into the green bin.
