Reports and decisions

Building permit values report

Staff presented the first-quarter 2025 building permit values. The report notes a slight dip in permit values for the quarter, though year-to-date totals remain strong compared to previous years. The committee reviewed the figures and agreed they reflect a steady construction market. Staff noted that new residential projects in the Wildrye and Ambrel Lake neighbourhoods are driving the year-to-date totals. Carried unanimously.

Housing needs assessment data

The committee discussed the 2025 Housing Needs Assessment data released for public review. The data outlines local market trends and will guide affordable housing priorities. The committee recommended a 30-day public review period to gather resident feedback before finalizing housing strategies. You can submit your comments online or by mail to the Planning and Development department. Carried unanimously.

Northgate Aquatic Centre summer season

Staff reported that the Northgate Aquatic Centre at 910 Northgate Boulevard will open for the summer season on May 24, 2025. The committee approved the summer staffing plan and confirmed the opening date aligns with the city's recreation calendar. Pool admission rates for the season will be posted on the Recreation & Culture website. Carried unanimously.

Fire Station 2 Renovation

The committee reviewed the proposal for the Fire Station 2 renovation and authorized the Director of Public Works to proceed with the contract. The work will begin this spring to minimize service disruption. Carried 4-0.
