Reports and decisions
The committee reviewed several planning matters and made the following decisions:
- Site Plan Control Exemption at 45 Tamsin Street – The committee reviewed the application for a mixed-use building and recommended that it proceed without site plan control, provided the developer adheres to the City's sustainable building standards. Carried.
- Zoning Amendment for 15 Mill Street – Staff presented a proposal to allow heritage commercial uses in the old mill district. The committee voted unanimously to recommend the amendment to Council to support local artisans and small businesses. Carried.
- Heritage Designation for 12 Mercer Street – Following a public consultation, the committee discussed the architectural significance of the property. Members agreed to forward a recommendation to Council to designate the building under the Heritage Conservation By-law. Carried.
- Minor Variance at 88 Mill Street – An applicant requested a variance to reduce the required rear yard setback for a secondary suite. The committee determined the change would not negatively impact neighbouring properties and recommended approval, subject to standard building code compliance. Carried.
By-laws
No by-laws were passed at this meeting. The Planning and Environment Committee reviews and recommends by-laws to full Council, which holds the authority to pass them. Once the committee finalizes its recommendations, they will be forwarded to Council for a public hearing and vote.
