What the by-law covers
If you own or manage a commercial, industrial, or institutional property in Wrenford, you must keep noise down so it does not disturb nearby residents or businesses. The Noise By-law 2016-122 and the Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075 set clear limits for commercial noise, construction equipment, vehicle exhausts, and outdoor speakers. You are responsible for making sure your operations, contractors, and delivery drivers follow these rules.
Quiet hours and allowed times
Wrenford has strict quiet hours to protect neighbourhoods. The daily quiet period runs from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. During these hours, commercial and industrial noise must not be audible inside a nearby residence. Outside of quiet hours, you must still keep noise at a reasonable level that does not cause a nuisance.
Construction and power tool use is allowed on specific days and times:
- Monday to Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Sunday and statutory holidays: prohibited.
Delivery trucks and vehicles must not idle for more than three minutes while parked on your property or on the street. If a vehicle in motion emits noise measured at 96 decibels or more, it is considered objectionable noise under the Highway Traffic Act.
How to report a noise complaint
If a business or construction site is causing a disturbance, you can report it during regular business hours. By-law Enforcement officers investigate daytime noise complaints and work with property owners to resolve issues through education and enforcement. You can reach the By-law Enforcement team at 519-555-0100 or through Service Wrenford.
For noise complaints after hours or on weekends, contact the Wrenford Police Service at 911 for emergencies or 519-555-0117 for non-emergency reporting. Police officers can issue Summary Offence Tickets for serious or repeated violations.
Fees and penalties
Violations of the Noise By-law carry fines. A first offence is $100.00. A second offence within a set period is $250.00. Repeated failures to comply can lead to additional orders and higher penalties.
Exemption permits
If your commercial project or event must exceed the standard noise limits or quiet hours, you can apply for a noise exemption permit. These short-term permits are reviewed by the appropriate committee and are required for construction work outside standard hours or special events that use amplified sound. Submit your application through Service Wrenford at least ten business days before the planned activity.
