Help run a Wrenford election

On Monday, October 26, 2026, Wrenford residents will elect a mayor and six councillors. To make sure every vote is counted fairly and efficiently, we need reliable election workers to staff the polls. Whether you want to serve as a Returning Officer, Deputy Returning Officer, or Poll Clerk, this is a chance to give back to your community and learn how our democratic process works.

Who can apply

To work at a polling place, you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older on election day
  • Be a Canadian citizen
  • Be a resident of Wrenford or a registered non-resident property elector
  • Not be a candidate, an agent for a candidate, or a candidate's representative

Previous election experience is not required. We welcome applications from students, retirees, and anyone who wants to support a smooth election day.

Roles and responsibilities

Returning Officer leads the voting process at a designated voting place. They manage the setup, supervise staff, and ensure all rules are followed. This role requires strong organizational skills and the ability to solve problems quickly.

Deputy Returning Officer assists the Returning Officer and steps in to lead if needed. They oversee the voting area and manage the ballot box.

Poll Clerk helps voters check in, mark their ballots, and keep the voting area organized. Poll Clerks work closely with voters and ensure a respectful environment.

Training and preparation

All election workers must complete two training modules before election day:

  • A one-hour online training course, which you can complete at home before October 15, 2026
  • A three-to-four-hour in-person training session on October 19, 2026, at Wrenford City Hall

During the in-person session, you will practice setting up voting equipment, reviewing identification requirements, and handling common voter scenarios. Training is mandatory to ensure every polling place runs smoothly.

Pay and scheduling

Election workers are paid $28.00 per hour. You will be paid for all hours worked, including setup, voting hours, and breakdown. Shifts typically run from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., though hours may vary based on turnout and operational needs. You can list your top three preferred polling places when you apply, but final assignments depend on the City's needs.

Direct deposit is required for payment. Please bring a void cheque or bank form when you complete your application. Workers aged 65 to 70 may use the CPP exemption form CPT30 to opt out of Canada Pension Plan contributions.

How to apply

Applications are accepted online or in person at the Elections Office. The deadline to apply is 4:00 p.m. on October 15, 2026. You will receive a confirmation email once your application is processed.

If you have questions or need help with the application, contact the Elections Coordinator, Zoe Grant, at [email protected] or call the Elections Office at 519-555-0100.

By working on election day, you help keep Wrenford's democratic process transparent, accessible, and trusted by everyone.
