About the committee
The Civic Asset Naming Committee advises City Council on naming streets, parks, facilities, and other public spaces. The committee ensures that new names reflect Wrenford's history, geography, and community values. All naming proposals must follow the By-laws and be distinct, inclusive, and enduring.
Who serves on the committee
Members include:
- Two elected councillors appointed by Council
- One representative from the Planning & Development department
- Three resident members with knowledge of Wrenford's history, geography, or community groups
Resident members serve a two-year term and may be reappointed once. You can Apply to serve on a committee to join.
How meetings work
The committee meets on the second Thursday of every month at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Meetings are open to the public, and you can watch them on the city's livestream. Agendas and minutes are posted at View committee meeting agendas.
Submitting a naming proposal
Residents, community groups, and developers can suggest names for civic assets. When you submit a proposal, please include:
- A clear explanation of why the name is meaningful to Wrenford
- Supporting documents, such as historical records, community letters of support, or maps
- Confirmation that the name is unique and not easily confused with existing streets or landmarks
Send your proposal to [email protected]. The committee reviews submissions during regular meetings and forwards recommendations to City Council for final approval.
Minor assets
For smaller community assets, such as a playground equipment set or a neighbourhood pocket park, the committee may delegate approval to the relevant department staff. These decisions do not go before full Council.
