About the programme
The City of Wrenford offers internship and co-op placements that let you put your classroom learning to work. You will gain hands-on experience, build professional skills, and work alongside city staff who care about our community. These placements are a great way to explore a career in municipal government before you graduate.
Who can apply
To be considered for a placement, you must:
- Be enrolled full-time in a recognised college, university, or high school co-op programme in Ontario.
- Be in good academic standing with a minimum 70 per cent average.
- Have the legal right to work in Canada.
- Be available for the full duration of the work term.
We welcome applications from students of all backgrounds. The City of Wrenford is committed to an accessible hiring process and will provide accommodations upon request.
When positions are available
Placements are offered during the summer, fall, and winter terms. We hire students on a seasonal basis, and positions are limited. We typically post summer opportunities in early March. Fall and winter postings appear in August and January, respectively. We work closely with Tamsin College and area high schools to coordinate credit-bearing co-op terms that fit your academic schedule.
Where you can work
Interns and co-op students work across many city departments. Past placements have been in:
- City Services, including water operations, roads, and waste management.
- Recreation & Culture, supporting facility operations and programme delivery.
- Planning & Development, assisting with zoning, engineering, and environmental studies.
- Public Safety, supporting emergency management and fire prevention outreach.
- Corporate Services, helping with finance, human resources, and information technology.
How to apply
All applications are submitted through the Wrenford Careers portal. You will need to upload your current resume, a cover letter explaining your interest, and an official academic transcript. If your programme requires a co-op agreement form, you must attach it to the same application. Do not send separate emails.
Once we receive your application, a hiring manager will review it. If your qualifications match an open role, a staff member will contact you to schedule an interview. We aim to notify all applicants of the selection outcome within four weeks of the posting deadline.
Compensation and benefits
Interns are paid an hourly wage that reflects the level of responsibility and your year of study. The starting rate is $20.50 per hour, with increases for subsequent years. Co-op students who complete a full work term may also be eligible for the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) co-op work term grant. The City does not provide housing or transit passes, but we encourage you to use your student transit pass where applicable.
