Environmental initiative grants

Learn how Wrenford businesses and community groups can apply for funding to reduce waste, save energy, and lower their carbon footprint.

About the program

The Environmental Initiative Grants program helps Wrenford businesses, non-profits, and community groups take practical steps to protect the environment. Whether you want to upgrade to energy-efficient lighting, set up a composting system, or reduce single-use plastics, the City can help cover part of the cost.

Who can apply

  • Registered Wrenford businesses of any size
  • Non-profit organisations and community groups based in Wrenford
  • Neighbourhood associations and school boards operating within the city

You must hold a valid Wrenford business licence or be a registered non-profit with the City.

What we fund

Grants are awarded for projects that directly reduce energy use, cut greenhouse gas emissions, or minimise waste. Eligible activities include:

  • Installing high-efficiency HVAC systems or LED lighting
  • Purchasing electric vehicles or charging stations for fleets
  • Setting up on-site composting or food waste diversion
  • Replacing single-use packaging with reusable or recyclable alternatives
  • Conducting a certified energy or waste audit

We do not fund general operating costs, staff salaries, marketing, or projects that have already started before approval.

Grant amounts and matching funds

Projects can receive up to $7,500.00. You must cover at least 25 per cent of the total project cost in cash or in-kind donations. The City pays its share after you show proof that the work is finished and the funds have been spent.

How to apply

  1. Download the application form from the Business section or pick one up at Wrenford City Hall.
  2. Fill out the project outline, including your budget, timeline, and expected environmental benefits.
  3. Submit your form to [email protected] or drop it off at the Service Wrenford counter.
  4. Our team reviews applications monthly and will contact you within ten business days to let you know if your project is approved.
  5. Once approved, complete the work, keep all receipts, and submit a final report to receive your grant payment.

Important dates

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. The City closes the intake window each year on November 30 to process awards for the following calendar year.
