Bed and breakfast licence

Learn how to get a bed and breakfast licence in Wrenford, including requirements, fees, and how to apply.

What is a bed and breakfast licence?

A bed and breakfast (B&B) is a temporary accommodation in your home that includes breakfast for guests. If you want to host visitors in your Wrenford home, you must get a rental property business licence. This licence helps keep our neighbourhoods safe and supports local tourism.

Who needs a licence?

You need a licence if you plan to:

  • Rent out bedrooms in your home for short stays.
  • Provide breakfast to your guests.
  • Host up to four guests in a maximum of two bedrooms.
  • Live in the home yourself while operating the B&B.

Before you apply

Make sure your property meets all city rules before you submit an application.

  • Check your zoning. Your address must be in a zone that allows bed and breakfasts. If you are unsure, contact the Planning and Development department.
  • Meet safety standards. Your home must follow the City's bed and breakfast accommodation guidelines. You will likely need a building permit and a fire safety inspection.
  • Review the rules. You can only rent two bedrooms and host four guests at a time. You must also be the resident owner.

How to apply

Follow these steps to get your licence.

  1. Gather your documents. You will need a copy of your government-issued photo ID. If someone else is applying for you, they must bring their own ID and a letter of authorization from you.
  2. Fill out the application. Download the rental property application form.
  3. Pay the fee. The licence fee is $300.00 annually. Fees are prorated in your first year based on the date you start your business.
  4. Submit your application. You can submit your completed form, documents, and payment online, by mail, or in person at the Service Wrenford counter.

After you get your licence

Once your licence is approved, you must:

  • Continue to live in the home.
  • Provide breakfast in your home.
  • Keep the number of rented bedrooms to a maximum of two.
  • Host no more than four guests.
  • Display your licence number on your booking website or listing.
